Hub Exhibition 2023
Ignite the imagination and light the slow fuse of the possible
— Emily Dickinson
A while ago in an interview with On Landscape I mentioned that one day I’d love to see my photographs in their own exhibition - part ego no doubt (let’s be honest) but also part chance to raise funds for issues I care about. Well, it’s over eight years since I said that but now it’s happened thanks to the special folk at Hallbankgate Hub.
The exhibition runs from Monday 27 March to Saturday 29 April and is open daily from 9am to 4pm (noon on Sundays). The 30 photographs on show can be seen by clicking on the index pictures above. Each section has a few introductory words but if you can’t be bothered with the words just scroll down to see all the pictures together. If I’m lucky enough to sell anything then all profits will go to Dementia Carers Count - a fantastic charity that helps people like me do their very best to care for their loved ones. They’ve been a godsend.
If you’re ever near Hallbankgate (13 miles east of Carlisle and five miles south of Hadrian’s Wall) popping in to the Hub is a no-brainer. It’s the perfect place to start or finish great walks in the fells and woods of the most northerly North Pennines. Then, apart from the gallery, there’s a wonderful cafe with scrumptious cakes made by the special volunteers who make the place tick, a super shop that caters to all, a small but perfectly formed library and, on Thursday mornings, a Post Office. All this in the company of the most welcoming people who are always keen to help - it’s the rural community in rural communion. I love it!
